The partnership visa is granted temporarily, allowing the applicant to live in Australia. It is considered to be the initial stage towards a permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 801). One can apply for both visas using a single application fee. The applications will be processed in two stages with a time-lapse of two years apart.
To be eligible, one must be in a de facto relationship with the following category of individuals;
- An Australian citizen
- An Australian permanent resident
- A New Zealand citizen
